FORM UKBlues Awards 2018 – Categories

Here are the 17 awards categories for the FORM UKBlues Awards 2018 which all relate to the calendar year 2017 (1st January 2017 – 31st December 2017):

Except as more specifically detailed below for a few special categories, nominations for each category will comprise a national nomination panel of more than 350 people from across the blues spectrum in the UK. This national panel will comprise all current members of UKBlues Federation as at the commencement date of the nomination process and journalists, (both online and print media), broadcasters, promoters, publishers, musicians, festival and club organisers, academics, publicists, agents and label and distribution company personnel, fans and blues supporters and the like.

The 4 regional categories (Categories 14-17: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) will each have specific nomination panels comprising people who are resident in the specific region with nominations restricted to acts from each of the specific regions.

No member of the Board of UKBlues Federation will be permitted to nominate for or vote in the UKBlues Awards categories other than the award for Innovation in the Blues in the UK (Category 13). Full details of the rules regarding categories, nominations and voting are given on the Rules page.

 

Male Blues Vocalist of the Year

– An artist who, during the Awards year, has made the most significant impact through the quality of their performance and/or recordings.

 

Female Blues Vocalist of the Year

– An artist who, during the Awards year, has made the most significant impact through the quality of their performance and/or recordings.

 

Blues Band of the Year

– A band who, during the Awards year, has made the most significant impact through the quality of their performance and/or recordings.

 

Acoustic Blues Act of the Year

– An acoustic act who, during the Awards year, has made the most significant impact through the quality of their performance and/or recordings.

 

Young Blues Artist of the Year

– An artist aged under 25 on the 31st December of the Awards year who, during the Awards year, has made the most significant impact through the quality of their performance and/or recordings.

 

Blues Based Festival of the Year

– the UK Festival which, in the Awards year, best catered for the attendees and participating musicians, brought the most to the local/regional community, been well organised and priced and offered the broadest based choice of blues based acts.

 

UK Blues Based Broadcaster of the Year

– A person or persons who produce/present regular (at least once per calendar month) blues based radio shows, podcasts and the like which emanate from the UK.

 

Blues Album of the Year

– A blues based album first released by a UK band/artist(e) during the Awards year.

 

Blues Songwriter of the Year

– The person(s) who, in the opinion of the nominating panel, has/have written and/or published the most original, creative and artistic song/songs during the Awards year.

 

Blues Club/Venue of the Year

– Nominations for this award will be invited from the public at large and must be accompanied by a summary not exceeding 150 words describing why the club/venue is being nominated, what contribution it makes to the blues in the UK etc. The submission must be accompanied by the name, address, telephone number and e-mail address of the person making the submission.

 

Blues Personality of the Year

– A person who, in the opinion of the nominating panel, has been the outstanding personality on the blues scene in the UK during the Awards year.

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a panel comprising all paid up members of UKBlues Federation, excluding Board members, as at the commencement date of the nomination process.

 

Lifetime Contribution to the Blues in the UK

– A person or group whom the nominating panel deems to have made a significant and lasting contribution to blues in the UK over many years. This award is not necessarily limited to musicians but can include anybody who meets the criteria regardless of their particular involvement in the genre.

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a panel comprising all paid up members of UKBlues Federation, excluding Board members, as at the commencement date of the nomination process.

 

Innovation in the Blues in the UK

– A person or persons, a band, an organisation or other entity, whose work and/or activities have, in the opinion of the nominators, breathed new breath into the blues, introduced something new and fresh and/or successfully pushed the genre’s boundaries in the UK.

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a panel comprising all paid up members of the UKBlues Federation, including Board members, as at commencement date of the nomination process, plus journalists (both online and print media), broadcasters, promoters, publishers, musicians, festival and club organisers, academics, publicists, agents and label and distribution company personnel.

 

Regional: Blues Act of the Year – England

– An artist, act or band, based in England that best represents Blues in England

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a specific nomination panel comprising people who are resident in England with nominations restricted to acts from England.

 

Regional: Blues Act of the Year – Northern Ireland

– An artist, act or band, based in Northern Ireland that best represents Blues in Northern Ireland

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a specific nomination panel comprising people who are resident in Northern Ireland with nominations restricted to acts from Northern Ireland.

 

Regional: Blues Act of the Year – Scotland

– An artist, act or band, based in Scotland that best represents Blues in Scotland

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a specific nomination panel comprising people who are resident in Scotland with nominations restricted to acts from Scotland.

 

Regional: Blues Act of the Year – Wales

– An artist, act or band, based in Wales that best represents Blues in Wales

– Nominations for this award will be invited from a specific nomination panel comprising people who are resident in Wales with nominations restricted to acts from Wales.
